Christmas Message from the Chairman of Mathern Community Council
Dear Residents
This year has been one that none of us would have envisaged a year ago and no doubt one that we would sooner forget. There isn’t anyone that has not been touched by this pandemic.
Who would have thought that the church would not be able to hold Christmas services at Christmas or that the pub would be closed after a period of not being able to serve alcohol, let alone a ban on family gatherings! New words have grown into our regular vocabulary such as shielding, social distancing and furlough. How the world can change.
As a Community Council we have adapted the way we work to support the Community in any way we can and have managed to maintain our core functions in spite of the pandemic.
One thing that this pandemic has shown us all I believe is how lucky we are to all live in such a respectful, caring and supportive community, one where people have selflessly supported those not in a position to do the regular things in life such as shopping, collecting medicines or just being there for support or a chat. I hope that when this pandemic is under control that we all remember how valuable we are to each other no matter what our roles or positions in life, and continue to look out for each other. We all need each other to live the quality of life we all aspire to.
This Christmas will be one of the strangest we have experienced but on behalf of the Community Council may I wish you and all your family a safe, peaceful and memorable Christmas and a happy healthy new year, one that we can all join together and enjoy.
Kindest regards and seasonal greetings,
David Harris MBE
Chair of Mathern Community Council
